Jamie graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a degree in Speech Communications and Spanish. A year after moving to Chicago Jamie found herself interviewing for Echo’s Account Executive position. While she didn’t know anything about logistics, she could tell from the buzz at Echo it was going to be a good place for her.
Q: So you’re from Wisconsin?
A: Yep, born and raised in Green Bay. I actually cried when Brett Favre retired. Then again when they showed it on the news later. I spent some time in Costa Rica studying Spanish, too.
Q: How did you end up at Echo?
A: My job at the time was less than fulfilling, when I came in for the interview I didn’t have a clue about the industry but I could tell Echo was an exciting place to be. There was a buzz when I walked in the front door. People were walking around and talking, you could just tell there was something unique going on. I was impressed that I met with Sr. Managers and even the President of the company during my interview. And since the company was young, it was clear that there was going to be significant opportunity to move up, that Echo wasn’t a place to sit still, but a place to really build a career.
Q: Have you found that to be true?
A: Absolutely! I love the work I do. Since joining Echo I have been a part of several teams and after being at Echo for eight months was promoted to Team Lead. I manage all modes of transportation for five accounts and a team of two. My days are busy, but I love that every day brings something new. I was most recently promoted into the National Accounts Department, where I will be a National Accounts Sales Representative. This is a new role within Echo and I am excited for the opportunity and challenge.
Q: What’s your day to day?
A: No day is ever the same. I’m always trying to make my client’s life easier so I end up solving a lot of problems. Every situation is different and presents a new challenge, so I’m always thinking outside of the box and finding new ways to help my clients. I spend time participating in employee coaching, weekly team meetings, management meetings and facilitating training for the Operations team. I also have ongoing interaction with the Sr. Management teams of my clients.
Q: What has been your experience at Echo?
A: I am proud of my accomplishments made here. We take our work seriously and we get the job done and we do it well. And the growth we’ve made as a company and a department, even down to my team and individual employees has all been due to a solid support structure. If mistakes are made we change processes and adjust best practices in order to learn and grow. It’s instilled from a Sr. Management level that you learn from mistakes and move on.
Q: What do you do outside of Echo?
A: I recently got engaged, so planning my wedding is my primary focus right now. I also love to travel. My fiancé and I try to get somewhere new every couple of months and our favorite place is Door County, Wisconsin. I also play on the Echo softball team – which is a great way to meet new people and blow off some steam on Thursday nights!
