Find Your Team and Change the Game
By Erin, Sr. Software Engineer
I think it’s safe to say I found my calling at Echo by chance. After graduating in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Video Game Programming, the logistics industry wasn't on my radar. However, around the time of graduation, I met an Echo employee at a college career fair and was struck by the opportunity to create emerging technologies from the ground up. Fast forward a few years, and now, I’m coming up on my three-year anniversary as a Software Engineer at Echo.
Having a unique background is more than welcome at Echo. I can attest to this with my educational background in Video Game Programming. I’ve met so many people with backgrounds ranging from web development to computer science. Diversity gives my team a distinct advantage, allowing us to approach tasks and projects holistically. I regularly find myself working closely with the quality assurance team, product team, and data team. The diverse culture at Echo allows us to build close personal relationships with other departments, and that helps build a strong, collaborative workplace.
I also love the chance to express my ideas and see them turn into reality. There’s an open dialogue, whether you go to upper management or reach out to your cube mates. Everyone’s willing to listen. Hard work and determination are truly recognized at Echo, and I feel grateful for my team’s acknowledgment and support. I was recently given “The Echo Way” award, which is presented annually in recognition of employees who embody Echo’s core values. The award includes a free trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Another element that I appreciate about Echo’s culture is our focus on inclusivity. We have a wide range of employee resource groups—for example, Echo Pride, Women in Technology, and Gamers of Echo. You can even relax over an epic game of Dungeons and Dragons. Echo continues to make room for everybody and every interest. Plus, if you don’t find something you like, you’re empowered to create new groups that can help make Echo your home.
